Knowledge of developmental theories impacts children today because all of the observation throughout the years helps us learn about how the average child learns. With knowledge dating from years back we are able to compare observations made in the past to children of the present and use them to our advantage. Past knowledge serves as a resource that we can come back too and use in ways that help us teach our children today. For instance having this knowledge we can try a theorist's teaching method or even take that method and mold it into one that works for our children. If a child does not respond well to a certain method we have other theories to be inspired by. The idea is to find the most developmentally appropriate practice for each individual child since all children are individuals and not everyone learns the same way.
